A self-taught realist, she has been drawing and painting since childhood. One of Canada’s rising realist painters Crystal moves easily between watercolour, oil or graphite. Her work is recognizable with it’s rich, earth tone palette and emotionally charged, rural narrative and ability to capture expression and anatomy in both human and animal portraiture. She graduated with honours and holds a BFA in Studio and a Botanical Illustration diploma from the Society of Botanical Artists  (UK).

Crystal is regularly invited educator, guest speaker, juror & art critic for various art societies and exhibitions both Nationally & Internationally. She lives in the country nestled between Ottawa Ontario and Montreal Quebec with her husband and their two dogs.

“Whether I am working on a personal or corporate commission in oil, watercolour, pencil or pastel, my objective is to get at the heart of my subject matter.  My work  reflects my rural roots and is a collision of two worlds: Realism and Expressionism. Realism allows me to affect the cerebral that is human nature – our desire to recognize a shape, place and subject, while the strokes, drips and splatter are the result of an intuitive relation to the medium at hand. Bridging the ephemeral; nostalgia, resilience, desire, loss, love. I love connecting with others through my artwork.”
